Miller lets NDP membership lapse

So where does it end? Harper will cut up his Conservative Party membership so that he can represent the interests of Canada and not a party. People knew Miller was a New Democrat when he was elected what has changed except that as an opportunist Miller thinks he will be better off with no political affiliation. Instead of a progressive party Miller has chosen to represent opportunism a common enough practice sanctioned by party jumpers.

Toronto Mayor David Miller has severed formal ties to the New Democratic Party by deciding not to renew his membership.

With a provincial election in October and a federal election on the horizon, a spokesman for the mayor says Toronto is facing important dealings in the year ahead.

"If there's a perception that the mayor belongs to one political party that may actually be detrimental," spokesman Stuart Green told CBC News.

Party membership is usually renewed at the end of the calendar year and Green says Miller simply didn't renew his.

"He's decided to let that membership lapse and let it be known that he's the mayor of Toronto and not a member of a political party. He represents the City of Toronto's interests," said Green.

Miller told a local newspaper that he wasn't rejecting the NDP philosophy, but just trying to avoid partisan politics while working with other parties on behalf of the city.
